“Hermes…” and “Caught…” got some show time in St. Petersburg

A light curator, as she likes to call herself, and an artist Evgenia Konovalova started the 2014 Exhibition Season in the cultural capital of Russia with a visiting artist Veronica Shimaovskaya’s show. Veronica’s works were shown in the Parnik and the Door exhibition spaces at Pushkinskaya 10 Art Centre.

This multi media art show seeks to avoid the obvious preferring instead to hide or obscure meaning and thus challenge the way in which the work is interpreted. Themes explored in the show include human frailty, deconstruction of time and contemporary comment. The use of the Crypt facilitates a codified thread of meaning by placing the work in a setting with its own historical and symbolic importance.

On Freedom and Gardening (Вне Пейзажа)

The latest piece was created in July of 2013 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The objects found on the construction site of new hostel “Mozaika,’ suggested both: the theme and the execution. The environment of sculptural metamorphosis and, in the same time, participatory art, as well as a prop for future performances and a garden pergola was born and is awaiting a more permanent place on the lawn of the hostel, where it eventually will be overtaken by climbing greenery and will become a pastorale stage for some future art projects. The idea of rigid structures crumbling under the new and fresh growth materialized in the environment  of urban courtyard of a youth hostel in St. Petersburg.
